is een bijzondere ontdekkingstocht naar het in Nederland relatief onbekende Midden-Amerikaanse land Honduras. Drie kunstenaars – een fotograaf, een schrijver en een musicus – verkennen het verleden en tonen het heden van het land in hun beelden, teksten en muziek. De foto's van de Nederlandse fotograaf Hannes Wallrafen verbeelden de samenleving en het spoor dat de tijd erdoorheen heeft getrokken. Ze vormen een fantasievolle en tegelijkertijd waarheidsgetrouwe kennismaking met Honduras en de Hondurezen. De teksten van een van de grootste schrijvers van Honduras, Julio Escoto, en de muziek van de bekende componist en zanger Guillermo Anderson kleuren het beeld verder in.
De samenwerking tussen deze drie kunstenaars maakt Van de tijd en de tropen – Honduras een brug van vriendschap tussen Latijns Amerika en Europa, die bijdraagt aan de communicatie tussen de volkeren en de solidariteit tussen mensen.

Deze uitgave is het resultaat van een initiatief van de Organisatie voor Latijns Amerika Activiteiten (OLAA), en is een co-uitgave van KIT Publishers in Amsterdam en Centro Editorial srl. in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Van de tijd en de tropen – Honduras werd mogelijk gemaakt door de financiële steun van Hivos; Stichting Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst; Mondriaan Stichting, stimuleringsfonds voor beeldende kunst, vormgeving en museale activiteiten; en NCDO - duurzame wereld.

Julio Escoto is romanschrijver en essayist. Zijn recente roman Rey del Albor, Madrugada wordt gezien door internationale critici als een zeer belangrijk werk binnen de Centraal-Amerikaanse literatuur. Hij heeft verschillende literaire prijzen ontvangen. Op dit moment woont hij in San Pedro Sula waar hij directeur is van uitgeverij Centro Editorial.

Guillermo Anderson is zanger en songwriter. Vanuit hun woonplaats in de havenstad La Ceiba, voert de muziek Anderson en zijn band over de hele wereld. In zijn concerten staan thema's als liefde, de natuur en het dagelijks leven in Honduras centraal. Onder andere met zijn muzikale projecten voor kinderen, speelt hij in Honduras ook een belangrijke rol in het betrekken van het publiek bij belangrijke onderwerpen als gezondheid, alfabetisering en natuurbescherming.

The words of Julio Escoto, one of Honduras? most famous writers, give a depth of understanding to the photographs, and the music of Honduran singer and songwriter Guillermo Anderson adds an extra dimension to the exploration of this society. Together, they introduce Honduras and Hondurans to us in a way that is highly imaginative and truthful at the same time. The collaboration of these three artists forms a bridge of friendship between Latin America and Europe, contributing to communication between nations and the solidarity of their people.

Julio Escoto is a novelist and an essay writer. His most recent novel Rey del Albor, Madrugada (published in English as XXX) is seen by international critics of literature as a work of major importance to Central American literature. He has received several literary awards. He currently lives in San Pedro Sula where he is director of publishing house Centro Editorial.

Guillermo Anderson is a very well known Honduran singer and songwriter. Based in the lively Caribbean port of La Ceiba, Guillermo and his band have taken his music all over the world. His concerts celebrate love, nature and everyday life in this part of the Caribbean. Known also as a children's music author, he has played an important role in Honduras bringing awareness on important issues like health, literacy and the protection of the environment.
